This weeks blog post will be based on information that is useful to my research paper. My research project will be based on positive psychology and how I used "the three good things" to prove how using positive psychology actually improved my well-being. To see my research project you can go to my research project web page.
Dear Dr. Seligman, “The Three Good Things” process improved my well-being, because as I was writing down things I did or what happened to me that day for a total of week I began to realize most of the things that I was writing down were things I usually over looked. When I say over looked I mean that in the most positive way because its not that I don’t appreciate the things people do for me it is just that I don’t really take the time out of the day to stop and really enjoy the moment because I’m always doing something or trying to get something done for work or school. By doing the “The Three Good Things” process I began to realize right away how good I was feeling mentally. I noticed that I was more happy and that I was enjoying the moment longer. I noticed that a lot of the things that I was talking about as I was doing my “three good things” had a lot to do with my boyfriend, parents, nephew and close friends. As I re-read everything that I wrote about for that week I saw that many of the “good” things that I was writing about were little everyday things that happen almost all the time but I just never paid enough attention. I began to appreciate the people and things around me a lot more because all the little things that made me happy over the week could still continue to make me happy if I just take the time to appreciate them. Most of the stuff that I wrote about were almost all good things that happened except for the passing of a old friend. I took what we were doing in class with the “three good things” and applied that towards and event that was not so good and basically tried to look at what happened in the most positive way. My young friend passing made me realize that life is not promised and everyday could be the day you die right where you stand, so appreciate the people and things people do for you in your life because it could all disappear. After my friend died Doing the “three good things” helped me. It helped me because it made me pay attention to even smaller things that happen in my everyday life like sitting at the table with my dad while he helps me do math work. In that moment it just felt like me doing more work but after I really thought about it we were really spending quality time together over a similar subject. Doing the ‘three good things’ process definitely opened my eyes to a better way to look at life and it is something that I would love to continue doing to improve my well-being.

I feel the same way about the exercise helping with appreciating small things.

I completely agree, I think this assignment really helps everyone take the time to appreciate all the little things. I think we tend to take for granted all the positive things in our life during the rush and bustle of each day.
