For this weeks blog post I will be providing the references in order for the findings section in my research project. This information will be useful to the reader to help them find the sources that I used for my paper to help give them a better understanding of my paper and what I will be talking about within my paper.

For this weeks blog post I will be composing a conclusion for my research project that you can find on my Research Project web-page.
What I took away from the research that I found gave me a better understanding of well-being and ways to improve well-being in people. I also got a deeper understanding on positive psychology, positive psychology is a way to having a more meaningful life and meeting all aspects of well-being: happiness, vitality, calmness, optimism, involvement, self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-worth, competence, development, purpose, significance, congruence, and connection. Doing “The three good things” gratitude process did improve my well-being because it really made me value the relationship that I have with my father and also the relationship that I did have with a childhood friend. Doing the three good things made me realize how grateful I am for the relationship that I have with my father because it really showed me how important he is in my life and how he is always there for me for anything. It also made me realize that the relationship that I had with my friend was a good relationship but it also opened my eyes up more to all the people that are in my life now that I’m grateful for and the things that they do for me. As I was doing the gratitude process I realized that most of the things that I was grateful for were the people that are in my life or that were in my life and the bond and type of relationship that I have with them. Doing the “three good things” gratitude process helped me improve my well-being. For this weeks blog post I will be writing about how "the three good things" improved my well being and why it improved my well-being. This blog post will be part of my research project that you can find on my Research Project web-page.
“The Three Good Things” process improved my well-being because as I was writing down things I did or what happened to me that day for a total of week I began to realize most of the things that I was writing down were things I usually over looked. When I say over looked I mean that in the most positive way because it’s not that I don’t appreciate the things people do for me it is just that I don’t really take the time out of the day to stop and really enjoy the moment because I’m always doing something or trying to get something done for work or school. By doing the “The Three Good Things” process I began to realize right away how good I was feeling mentally. I noticed that I was more happy and that I was enjoying the moment longer. I noticed that a lot of the things that I was talking about as I was doing my “three good things” had a lot to do with my boyfriend, parents, nephew and close friends. As I re-read everything that I wrote about for that week I saw that many of the “good” things that I was writing about were little everyday things that happen almost all the time but I just never paid enough attention. I began to appreciate the people and things around me a lot more because all the little things that made me happy over the week could still continue to make me happy if I just take the time to appreciate them. Most of the stuff that I wrote about were almost all good things that happened except for the passing of an old friend. I took what we were doing in class with the “three good things” and applied that towards and event that was not so good and basically tried to look at what happened in the most positive way. My young friend passing made me realize that life is not promised and everyday could be the day you die right where you stand, so appreciate the people and things people do for you in your life because it could all disappear. After my friend died Doing the “three good things” helped me. It helped me because it made me pay attention to even smaller things that happen in my everyday life like sitting at the table with my dad while he helps me do math work. In that moment it just felt like me doing more work but after I really thought about it we were really spending quality time together over a similar subject. Doing the ‘three good things’ gratitude process emerged relationship themes with people who are close to me in my life. For this weeks blog post I will be doing research that will be useful for my final research project. My latest blog post will be mostly about some information that I have researched about to put into my paper. This blog post will be me answering the literature review question below in order.
To see my research project you can go to my research project web page. 1.) What is positive psychology? “Positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life worth living (Peterson,2008). According to the founder of positive psychology Dr. Seligman says, “positive psychology consists of three things: Positive experiences, Positive states and traits and Positive institutions”.(Peterson,2008) By looking at just the positive in a persons life and looking over the negatives that it is proven to make a person feel genuinely better about ones self and has also been proven to make people more happy and appreciative. 2.)What is well-being? Feeling genuinely good about one’s self and their life. Well-being can be a complex thing to define and inform people on but many psychologist have been looking for ways to which well-being can be. According to Stephen Joseph, “what is used to describe well-being: happiness, vitality, calmness, optimism, involvement, self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-worth, competence, development, purpose, significance, congruence, and connection”.(Joseph, 2017) Carol Ryff states, “ well-being is multidimensional, and not merely about happiness, or positive emotions. A good life is balanced and whole, engaging each of the different aspects of well-being”.(Ryff, 2017) 3.)What research suggest that gratitude improves well-being? “the three good things” has been scientifically proven to improve people’s well-being by Dr. Seligman. By having people physically write down all of the good things that have happened to them that day they are forced to look at the positive side of the day instead of all the negative things that also could have happened. Yale center for emotional intelligence also says, “people randomly assigned to keep weekly gratitude journals exercised more regularly, reported fewer physical symptoms, felt better about their lives, and were more optimistic about the upcoming week compared to people assigned to record hassles or neutral events.”(Emmons, S. Stern, August 2013) 4.)What research suggest that gratitude improves well-being? “the three good things” has been scientifically proven to improve people’s well-being by Dr. Seligman. By having people physically write down all of the good things that have happened to them that day they are forced to look at the positive side of the day instead of all the negative things that also could have happened. Yale center for emotional intelligence also says, “people randomly assigned to keep weekly gratitude journals exercised more regularly, reported fewer physical symptoms, felt better about their lives, and were more optimistic about the upcoming week compared to people assigned to record hassles or neutral events.” 5.)What research suggest that gratitude does not improve well-being? Even though the “the three good things” process did improve peoples well-being it also was shown that some people did not get a good sense of appreciation walking away from doing “the three good things”. Leslie Baker-Phelps states, “Even when a catastrophe, tragedy, or difficult circumstance really has befallen them, they focus on what else could have gone wrong, but hasn’t. As a result, they feel relieved at best. But this generally doesn’t invite a warm sense of appreciation”.(Baker-Phelps, May,2016) 6.)What Research supports your data and experiences? The research that supports my data on positive psychology is “the three good things” it supports my data because it is about the good out comes to the “three good things” gratitude process. Information from the Yale center for emotional intelligence supports my data as well because it backs up “the three good things” and gives supporting data as to why doing the gratitude process helps improve well-being”.(Emmons, S. Stern, August 2013)Information from Stephen Joseph also supports my data because he went over the basic way in which good well-being is achieved.(Joseph,2017) Carol Ryff’s data supported my data because she really talked about all the different aspects of well-being.(Ryff,2017) This weeks blog post will be based on information that is useful to my research paper. My research project will be based on positive psychology and how I used "the three good things" to prove how using positive psychology actually improved my well-being. Dear Dr. Seligman, “The Three Good Things” process improved my well-being, because as I was writing down things I did or what happened to me that day for a total of week I began to realize most of the things that I was writing down were things I usually over looked. When I say over looked I mean that in the most positive way because its not that I don’t appreciate the things people do for me it is just that I don’t really take the time out of the day to stop and really enjoy the moment because I’m always doing something or trying to get something done for work or school. Doing the ‘three good things’ process definitely opened my eyes to a better way to look at life and it is something that I would love to continue doing to improve my well-being. For this weeks blog post we had to write down three things that went well each day and then explain why it went well from October 30 to November 5. I used the following links to help me on this blog post ,What is Positive Pyschology & Why Is it Important? (Positive Psychology Program), Greater Good in Action: Science-Based Practices for a Meaningful Life (UC Berkeley's Project Home Page), and Three Good Things (Greater Good in Action).
